Mischi Carter
UAS Instructor
Mischi
Carter has been one of the key developers of the UAS education program
and is a
motivational instructor that generates enthusiasm with her students as
they
learn about marine technology that allows us to explore the mysteries
of the
ocean.
Mischi
is a graduate of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio where she earned a Bachelor of
Arts,
majoring in Anthropology and Sociology. After
college she moved to Seattle
and worked for an engineering company where she designed production
tooling for
Boeing 747 and 767 aircraft. Her interest
in the oceans and diving soon led her to develop her own business as a
diving
professional.
She
began her underwater career at the age of three breath-hold diving at
the local
pool, much to the alarm and chagrin of the lifeguards. In Mexico,
at age
eleven, she finally learned how to stay down longer with a scuba tank
on her
back and has logged over 2000 dives since that day. Mischi is a Master
Instructor with the Professional Association of Dive Instructors and
has been
teaching scuba in the Pacific Northwest,
and
abroad for over 12 years certifying more than 700 divers in that time.
She has
appeared on "The Luxury Travel Show" and the Fine Living Channel's
"Me vs. Me" as a recognized expert in the scuba profession.
She
has run the dive
operations on the resort island
of Mustique in the Caribbean
and led adventure dive
tours to the Galapagos, Burma
and Komodo National Park, Indonesia. As an experienced sailor she has
crewed/lived
aboard a 35’ catamaran, sailing out of Brisbane up the east coast of
Australia
and out to the Loyalty Islands east of New Caledonia.
Mischi
specializes in designing education programs that inspire people to
learn more
about the marine environment. Her annual publication "Pacific Northwest
Current and Tide Guide for Dive Planning" and accompanying workshops
encourage people to understand the dynamic ocean forces that make our
region
unique and challenging. She is an educator for the Reef Environmental
Education
Foundation and teaches divers in the Northwest how to conduct
scientific
surveys on invertebrate and fish populations.
