Messerschmitt Bf-109E-3

At the request of Champlin Fighter Museum, Art Williams spent considerable time looking all over Europe and the Middle East in an attempt to locate an original Messerschmitt Bf 109. No restorable examples were found so a Spanish-built version (HA-1112) was acquired for conversion. A HA-1112 used in the movie “The Battle of Britain” was then located in Siegen, Germany. Williams hauled it back to Augsburg where it was placed in temporary storage. Coincident with the finding of the Hispano, Williams also was able to locate in Switzerland and original Bf 109E cowling and an associated Daimler-Benz DB601 engine. These were acquired and eventually shipped to Augsburg. Restoration and modification of the aircraft to Bf-109E specifications were undertaken taking several years to complete. The aircraft, now residing at the Champlin Fighter Museum, was assembled and is maintained by GossHawk Unlimited.
